Can’t commit to 1-2 hours of speech per week? Does your child already attend speech therapy but you want more contact with an slp?
Do you want to be able to speak to a trained speech language pathologist about your child and work with your child at home? If you are not ready to commit to speech therapy or are looking to enhance your child’s speech and language skills at home family training may be a great option!
The family training model is not a direct therapist-child service. A meeting is set up as needed via phone call or video meeting. During this meeting time parents are able to speak to a trained speech and language pathologist about their concerns. The speech-language pathologist will educate the family on strategies that they can incorporate into various family routines and play based activities. These strategies will help to enhance your child’s speech and language in a naturalistic manner.
Family trainings as offered as needed based on family needs. Rates are $50/30 minutes. After initial phone call/video meeting the speech language pathologist will send a summary to the family with the strategies and the routines to implement. Families are responsible for implementing these strategies throughout their day and for reaching out to schedule another session.

Carryover, the idea that skills learned in therapy will be transferred/generalized out of the speech session, is important in all therapeutic disciplines. Increased practice of skills and time spent focusing on a skill will improve a child’s abilities and speed of progress.
